I dont know if i have any like “hot takes” or interesting things to say about this album, just a lot of pepole i really like and respect have listened to it and the breeders in general around me a lot and i just never really listened to it actively despite wanting to for many many years.
Overall
Its really good and similar to a lot of music i fucking love, the pixies obviously but also crunchier, grungier shit. also there are some of my favorite parts of Pavement also reflected in this album, I didn’t bother to look up anyones influences. I think this is going in my normal rotation of albums. I am having a very rough week despite some lovely hanging out and chatting as a passenger princess a little, so I don’t think I have anything coherant to put here really that can’t be gotten from just listening to this yourself, but maybe i’ll come back to it a bit at some point with more of a clear head. Meow meow meow etc etc, good warm crunchy noises that I could listen to ten times in a row

The guitar part and the way it kind of chops up is really interesting Layering vocals! Also very pixies hang on Is this just more of the pixies. lol
Ok i looked it up it was a side project for the bassist of the pixies lol the articulation of the clean guitar part is really cool and deliberate sounding Much longer than the last song
Invisible Man
Crunchy Crunchy I like the chord progression The drummer in all of these has been a little in the background but is really tight and feels good The mix/master on all of these is a little dark, a little less high end in the guitars. I wonder if that’s intentional, going for that grungey kind of tone. The overdrive on the lead part is really just the right amount “Thats all thats left behind” hit was really good. The resolution on “catch him if you can” is really interesting! I like that a lot Wind chimes ending?

Whats the title about i wonder Tremolo picking wee! wooooaaaAAAAaaooooooaaAAAAA a lil ambient! I love that horrible sawing noise with such a frail melody No longer ambient! Those drums and bass come in hard VERY harsh tone and then just drums is such a good contrast

Fuck i love a slow song sometimes that you just can’t help but moving to lyrics are fun! and those are low crunchy chords its cool to hear them without a nightmare amount of distortion! Just. dissonance! chromatic walks up! wee! sloppy nothing guitar part awe i love you. Just doing your own thing

Feels such a fun kinda surphy song and really coming back in with a lot of energy not a lot of lyrical content to the last few songs and u know what! Good! Rock out and just have a lil fun with it!

Lyrics coming in on beat 1 is really good, that bass tone is so fucking good oh my god the guitar tone rules too. I want my guitar playing to sound like this Repetitive lyrics are really good

That clean bass is so different than what’s happened in the last few songs it really is so much Vocal effects!!! Yeah!!! Tremolo that shit The arrangement is so sparse but its Really Good There is such a precise emotion communicated with this song, reminds me of some pink floyd even just. sitting in the noise and bass

Franctic! the vocal performance is really like, a little slidey Just driving and warm The. vocal performance in the outro especially remind me of the “1800 stanley steamer in a bunch of styles” video a little too much

Just punky, noise and feedback That stupid guitar lead is so fucking. nice to me. Just doing whatever but committing SO hard to it, the bass is also so big. Filter pedal! Woo!

Back to cleaner sounds, but keeping distorted The slightly spoken vocals in the intro are good! the bass and guitar in the pre-chorus bit are really good. The close vocal harmony in the chorus is also just nice, itches my brain a little. So far i have been disappointed when all the songs ended because I want MORE of that sound and space.
Saints
Sticky! Band stop! The singer really is very good at rhythmic fast bits coming in, its very tight. The quieter section is really good, it makes the faster chorus REALLY good. The layers of guitar are just so good, the guitar and vocals syncing up so tight on the outro are fun :)

Oh we really are the pixies! Country shuffle! I really like this singer I need to listen to her sing more. She makes the simple lyrics and melody really satisfying. Ending on that non-resolution is really good especially into the swell in the intro of….
